PROJECT: PATH TO INDEPENDENT LIVING OF PEOPLE WITH DISSABILITIES - PROGRESS

Objectives
Establishing tool for increasing the capacities of the organizations and institutions working with PWDs in small group homes;
Creation of training methodology for raising the capacities of the caregivers and staff working in independent living units;
Creation of Web site for easing the process of navigating through the social system and provide learning opportunities;
Developing and increasing the capacities for providing care to PWDs to institutions and organizations;
Target groups
NGOs working with or interested to work with adult PWDs supporting their independent living Organizations from the partner countries operating on local and national level providing grass-root activities for adults with disabilities with the main focus on their independent living. These organizations are divided as following: Private providers of the social service coming from the deinstitutionalization process: Assistive Living of PWDsor coordinator of small group homes where PWDs live and Organizations working with PWDs and implementing activities with the main focus of supporting their independent living in various forms
People with disabilities (intellectual, physical or sensor) Target group of the planned activities are adults with any form of disabilities. The target group is divided in 2 aspects: Deinstitutionalized adults with disabilities living in assistive living support provided within the social protection systems of the governments and PWDs living with their families or any other form of semi-independent living
Municipalities, Centers for Social Work and the Ministries for Social Work and Policies Municipalities-each of the partners needs to involve one of the municipalities where either the small group home is established or where they implement the independent living activities, Center for Social Work-from the place where the small group home is established or where they implement the independent living activities and The Ministry for Social Work (or the Ministry responsible for the Deinstitutionalization process in the country)
Educators, caregivers, assistants and the expert staff psychologists, special educators, social workers working (or want to work) with PWDs in the assistive living services or implementing activities for independent living
Activities
Equipping with skills the staff and organizations working (or want to work) with adults with disabilities providing activities for independent living
Networking the social system (institutions) with the private providers and organizations working with independent living on national level and among the partnership
Creation of web platform for learning opportunities and easy access to institutional knowledge
Results
Guidebook on independent living in the small group homes and other forms of living
Training Methodology for staff working on independent living - how to organize occupational therapy activities for adults
Creation of resource platformwith 4 main components:
Educational opportunities for staff
Navigation in the social services system
Networking - Map and profiles of service providers and interested new providers
